Teamplay LAN #4 was held last Saturday the 11th of October at the Wollongong PCYC. In the end we only had 13 players partaking, but that didnt stop us from enjoying some heart-stopping teamplay action and it didnt detract at all from the intensely fought competition.
Due to the lack of numbers, we combined teams for the matches so that all games were 6 vs 7. It made it easier to only run one server at a time and surprisingly, the team with the extra man (Team Yellow) didnt always come out on top.
We kicked off the day with Counterstrike and Team Green, led by Grinreaper with great support from Cannon Fodder and GrayFox went through undefeated. Some truly impressive rounds with first GrayFox and then later Griever holding out alone, against all odds to take down 3 or 4 remaining opponents to win the round against all odds.
Quake3 Threewave was up next and possibly the most intense game of the day was first up. Teams Blue and Red grafting an early 2-0 lead, before Green and Yellow fought back gamely to get a nose in front 3-2. With 10 seconds remaining they thought they had it in the bag.....but then the mighty Scorpion returned the flag and Dark Star came limping home on only 25 health to level the scores 3-3 with only seconds remaining - forcing the game into overtime. Blue and Red withstood wave after wave of attacks until Grinreaper came in with the final capture that would snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. The adrenalin was well and truly pumping by this stage.
In the end Teams Red, Blue and Yellow all finished up with 2 wins in the Q3 section. Team Yellow, led by Morpheus squeaked ahead of Red (led by RogueAgent) and Blue (led by Scorpion) on for-and-against with great support from Griever, Rahvin and BlitzTurbo.
Wolfenstein Enemy Territory was last up and the tension was mounting. No-one had really played the game much before and so we had no idea how it would go and the Teamplay trophy was anyones. A constant run of pitched battles across the large maps saw much confusion and carnage as people finally adjusted, but it was the Red Team which came out on top, led by Dark Star and supported by Scorpion and Daedalus with 2 wins and a draw.
In the end the winner of the day was Grinreaper, who just pipped GrayFox at the post. Thier performances in CS and Q3 were enough to put them ahead of the pack with 6 wins and a draw from 9 games. The elated Grinreaper claimed the trophy and $50 voucher with Revolution CD, a worthy winner.
Thanks to all who came, especially Scorpion for running the servers, Cannon, GrayFox, Rahvin, Daedalus and Adbulmac for the help in setup/packup. I hope everyone had a great time and will be back for Teamplay #5 - to be announced soon.
