np's :D
i didnt really like the other NFS's coz they were too 'arcady' and meant that anyone with some sense of driving ability could play it pretty well...
but EA have stepped up a notch with this game...its still a bit arcady but its awsome... :D
theres also drift racing and sprints too :D
wheeee
/plays NFSU :P

Well the need for speeds are a lot better than the Test Drive car game I played once upon a time. If its got nice cars with good graphic and good handling i'll play it. 8)

Anybody thought about the own decals thing? Oh and it is possible to play on a network. You just have to have different CD keys (obviously) and have one of the comps connected to the net. Dial-up or whatever. Easy.

Ack. After finishing it, some thoughts:
"Take on Todd to get first place" Er, Todd isn't in first place. He's not even on the rankings. Nice consistency.
The ending. Jesus Christ. Nothing more to say.
Catch-Up. It's like cheating for the AI when they're just too shit to keep up. It's like you're in a car with maximum accel and top speed, you're doing 320 down a straight, and they manage to catch up to you by the next corner. Right.
Catch-Up is the biggest gripe I have though. If you crash, then shit on you.
Don't get me wrong, I love the game, just that these issues annoy the hell out of me. Sigh.

It's not a very good single player game, it's addictive, and the racing is good, and as with any game where you upgrade/modify things it's enjoyable... but the way the game was propelled is fucking stupid.
What did you expect from the ending? lol, given all the other cinematics and shit... i don't understand how you could think there'd be anything of value/interest happening at the end.

Touché. Admittedly I did expect something slightly more interesting. Let's make a soap opera out of it!
I'm kidding. Seriously.
Though it would be fun to LAN this one up, for Sprint mode. :D

Good cpd. You can't have no story, and then have an orsm story. ;)
Yeah leaving lan out was a big mistake i rkn
sw@t
1st December 2003, 08:45 PM
drift would of been fun multiplayer on lan, everyone starts like 3 / 4 or so seconds apart from each other, so if someone fucks up, then it slows the others down.
The game is ok.... pretty much easy except for the 6 lap courses.... omg how does the AI catch up around 1 corner from 12 seconds behind to like 2 / 3 seconds behind :(
cpd

As I whinged about, Catch-Up. :P I'll ask around for people to try and find the trigger for it. Talk to the DEViANCE boys, etc.

Dear EA Games,
I am disguested with the lack of LANNING ability in your new release of the NEED FOR SPEED series. How the hell in this day and age can you give a gamer the option to go online and play but not on a lan. The whole idea is frigen stupid!!! I am personally disguested how a software company could and would leave out such a simple option. I do have adsl and play it online now and then, but like i care about racing people i don't know!

9th December 2003, 03:31 AM
Dear Dandaman,
You are aware that NFS:U is an almost untouched x-box port... the x-box version didn't have lan, so you could bet your grandmothers wheelchair the pc version wouldn't.
This also accounts for it's shitty menu system, and control design.
...
So a pc version of a x-box game sucks, there are alot of games that fall into this category my friend. Trust me.
neonblack
9th December 2003, 10:48 AM
the good console-to-pc port is indeed a rare animal. thought to be extinct for many years it recently surfaced, only to go back into obscurity.
Yoda
10th December 2003, 04:49 PM
Kotor is a good port, minus the freeze bugs.
Splinter Cell is the only game that's nailed it.
[FG]Hef_Gargit
10th December 2003, 07:37 PM
splinter cell on pc was fucked. Without analogue movement, it was fucked.
Yoda
10th December 2003, 08:16 PM
That's not true.
You maybe didn't like it, but everyone i've talked to has had no problems at all. But your entitled to your opinion.
[FG]Hef_Gargit
10th December 2003, 10:16 PM
yeah, you're right, im wrong...
awsd and mouse wheel is so much better than 360Degree pressure sensetive analogue stick.
how could i ever question you
Yoda
10th December 2003, 10:49 PM
A mouse has 360Degree movement, it's more responsive to movement, and a helluva lot more accurate than any joystick.
No, I don't understand that hef. Like I said, you might like the joystick better, but I don't think it's any better. :)
Lord Shaper
10th December 2003, 10:56 PM
so once I have my xbox controller hooked up to my PC it should play as if it was the original version then???
Beecha
11th December 2003, 01:21 AM
One can only assume so Shaper.
And Hef, I'm with Yodes on this one, I played both versions and overall I prefer the Mouse/keyboard combo by far, but as Yodes said it all comes down to personal preference.
Yodes, I'd say GTA:Vice City nailed the port head on too. sure there's no quicksave but personally I think quicksave ruins a lot of games.

I thought the only real difference with Splinter Cell was the whole "hold it a little bit and itll walk, hold it a lot and it'll run" thing? Bah. Mousewheel. And picking locks... Can't remember how to do that on PC, but I know it was like wiggle the analog stick around on Xbox. Gotta admit that was kinda fun.
But no real preference on either format. Didn't play it too much unfortunately. :(
Beecha: Definitely. GTAVC was done very well.

I thought the only real difference with Splinter Cell was the whole "hold it a little bit and itll walk, hold it a lot and it'll run" thing?
nah, it was very sensetive to how far you were pushing it.. not like MGS2 where there is eitehr walk or run, this had varying levels of "speed" depending on far you pushed the stick.
lockpicking on xbox was awesome... how was it done on pc? (i only ever played the demo - the police station). I dont think it would be as good without the vibration?
cpd
11th December 2003, 03:50 PM
Um.. I think it was done by pressing the arrow keys. Not too sure though. But yeah. On Xbox that part was awesome.
I'm sure there's pro's and con's for both platforms though. Always seems to be the case. Sigh.
It's time for a revolution!
Mouse
11th December 2003, 04:25 PM
umm yeah i LOVED splinter cell on PC, neva played it on xbox though :P
yeah picking a lock was kinda ghey...u just had to mash the wsad keys until it unlocked... O_o

catch up is there to stop it being too easy
though frustrating.. i thought it was good
they wanted to smiulate the fast and the furious movies...in which the races were like..close and heated... but yeah , as annoying as it was.. it was still cool to a degree it stopped you just breezing through shit
anyway here is my eclipse..the baby i finished udnerground with
and my skyline i thought looked cool and simple at the same time
(it so sucks when your gfx card cant support vision blur *cries*)
