Last Sunday, another TeamDamage LAN was held with a great turnout of 77 players which, despite uni and school being back in session, was more than the February event !
The day kicked off with the Need For Speed : Underground "Race off" with young driver Hammo getting off to a good start in the first race, but in the end he was run down by meh in the final 2 races. Well done to new player meh on a good win.
The UT2K4 "All-In-Brawl" was up next and who could have anticipated how popular this game would be on the day. People literally crammed themselves into the server for what became a frantic blood bath between desperate combatants. In the end it was none other than Yoda who came out the clear winner.
As Season 2 of the Clan League began, there were 6 Clans to register. Notable exceptions were last seasons winners Cromulens and runners-up Ref, although Season 1 teams Bomb Squad and KarMA returned along with some familiar faces who formed the Soul Doctors and Flash Gitz, while newcomers Dynamik and Absolute Power stepped up to the challenge with enthusiasm.
The Half Life 4 vs 4 deathmatch competition would see some very close match ups with Bomb Squad coming from behind to barely overcome a spirited Dynamik and determined Flash Gitz only to be decimated by an overwhelming Soul Doctors in the final. Well done Soul Doctors.
The Quake3 capture the flag competition would similarly have some close games, the standout match of the day being an arm wrestle between KarMA and Flash Gitz, which started out even enough at 3-3, before KarMA raced to an 8-3 lead. Never say die Flash Gitz mounted one of the greatest comebacks in history though to draw level at 8-8 with a capture right on full time. In the rematch, Flash Gitz maintained the momentum to win out 4-2.
However, it was the Bomb Squad and Soul Doctors who would again battle in the final with a similar result - the Soul Doctors running away with a convincing win. Well done Soul Doctors....again.
Meanwhile, after some earlier version complications, the 5 hour CounterStrike Marathon was taken out by Xylem_7 who, with 135 kills, scored the "Frag Master" award for the event.
After this it was all UT2K4. People everywhere were jumping into games of Onslaught and I have not seen as much excitement about an upcoming release in many years. By the end of the day I think there ended up being more people playing the UT2K4 demo than there were playing CounterStrike. Its been a long time since anything got more support than CounterStrike so all the signs point to this game being a big one.
I'd like to give a very big thanks to fellow long-sufferring crew members Scorpion and Trojan who tirelessly helped setup, organise, run and packup the event. You guys rock !
Also, to those who helped at SlumberLAN cheers, but a BIG thanks to Satan and Beecha who came back to help us with the ardous packup of tables and chairs when everyone else had bailed out on us. Thank you very much for helping us out at the death guys. For us its always the hardest job after a weekend of running around organising things. I owe you a beer or two.
The next TeamDamage is coming up on April the 18th. There could be a slight change in format depending on the success of the UT2K4 release so stay tuned for more info and keep watching this space !
