Greetings TDers

Another TD has been and gone. This time we held our event at the Wests Illawarra Leagues club in the Kiera room. The admins were very happy with the venue and am looking at running the next LAN there in the next 2 months. The room has a good internet connection and is quite a large room with all the creature comforts. The best thing for the admins is we don’t have to worry about setting up and packing away the tables and chairs.

We would however like to hear the thoughts from everyone who attended the LAN. Did you like the Venue? If so what was good? What was bad?

The LAN its self went smoothly with very little dramas and problems. In fact the only problem we had was some compatibility issues with Savage and windows 7. The only other hassle was before we even got into the club when a crazy guy out the front at abut 8:45 wanted to get in (the club opens at 9). They wouldn’t let him in so he started attacking the glass doors with his pool cue stick. We were late getting in because the club called the cops and we had to wait until they arrived.

We had a little over 30 people attend the day and much gaming goodness was had. The first TPL game was a bit one sided. Unfortunately one captain choose to ignore the ranking system and picked those in the middle. Leaving those standing near the wall of leetness been gobbled up into the one team. needless to say team 2 spanked team 1 in all things TF2. unfortunately the seconded TPL game could work due to problem with savage and window 7. this is a huge let down as savage is such a great game. We will be looking at solution for this and hopefully we can get a savage game at some future LAN.

The void however was filled with heaps of other gaming goodness. Company of heroes, Quake, TF 2, Left for dead, and CS were just some of the games that were used to pass the time.

The winner of the lucky door prize was Gretchen. His ticket P3 was pulled out giving him a $50 voucher - spendable at any JB HI-FI store. More then enough to preorder starcraft 2.

Once again we would like to thank all those that attended and we look forward to seeing you at the next TD.

The venue rocked, very comfy, not seedy, non threatening patrons (hey I turned up late and missed the pool cue intro). Savage was a bit of letdown and the network seemed to hemorage a bit with file transfers choking at dialup speeds between tables and having to resort to external hard drives to share steam files was a downer.

Would prefer more TPL style stuff next time, hopefully 2-3 games throughout the day would be cool as the TPL stuff is definitely a personal highlight. I'd even go for smaller games running more teams in a pool as opposed to 2 big teams facing off, like say RTS games capped at teams of 2 running in a pool or if we'd had slightly more for TF2 running 4 teams teams etc.

All in all excellent venue, comfort reigned supreme just wish I'd been more prepared to face down the bistro :D.

I'll look into that. This was the first TD we used our new networking equipment (Dell 6248 core switch) and we actually had a 4gbit backbone running between the tables. Perhaps there was a problem somewhere in there. I wasn't actually aware of any speed issues until you mentioned them just now.
