Retro TeamDamage went off pretty well on Sunday. With a solid turnout, almost no technical issues and strong participation in the gaming side of things it was probably our best event of the year so far.

Our official count was 80 players - down on last LAN, but higher than expected considering the problems of last LAN and that Uni and School has gone back.

Things got underway with a good old Quake 1 deathmatch brawl. A handful of participants racking up the frags with Venom taking out the top score. In hindsight we probably ran this too early in the day as some of the really old LANners didnt quite get out of bed early enough for this one ;)

The CounterStrike Marathon got underway just before lunch and despite the absence of stats on the big screen the server was pretty active for most of the day. Apologies to the CS players - the stats for this competition will be released soon.

After lunch, an organised game of Battlefield Vietnam was greatly received with over 20 players getting involved. Teams were selected and it was Bowens Americans who came out on top and qualified for the lucky draw.

The Starcraft comp had 4 x 2 man teams take part and it was agreed we'd try a 4-way team melee which turned out to be an interesting affair. Venom and Satan grafted away a convincing win, slowly but surely crushing all in their path with thier devastating Battle Cruiser / Guardian combination.

Tribes 1, a game that always struggled to get a following, also had a decent number of participants with a dozen players stepping up to the challenge. RogueAgents team took a convincing 3-0 win on Raindance to qualify them for the lucky draw.

The Soul Doctors collected thier $500 cheque for thier success in Season 2 of the Clan League. Then it was time for the lucky prize draw with Bowen winning the 80 Gig hard drive with his BattleField Vietnam ticket, and Hef and Satan picking up CD packs with thier Tribes tickets. We'll be giving away another 80 Gigs next LAN, so those top 5 CS players who missed out on tickets this LAN will get entry into the next draw (once we compile the stats).

There was also plenty of other action happenning through the day. UT2004 got a solid run with some Insta-Gib in the afternoon and recently patched up Savage also had a strong following, indicating this game might be soon to realise its full potential. Doom3 also was a popular choice and it was good to see that there were plenty of other games getting a run.

Thanks to everyone for coming, especially to Mod Man and mo_girks who not only helped setup and packup, but spent most of the day working on getting the CS stats working - you guys are champs. To _Dragon, Smidy and the other guys who helped setup - it was one of the smoothest and most efficient setups we've had to date. To Beecha who unselfishly spent his Saturday downloading patches and then providing his machine as the file server even though he couldnt attend the event due to work - now THATS heart. To Rahvin for being on-call throughout the day and his mate (Jason ?) for helping with crowd control in the morning. The crazy NutMeg who slaved over the hot plate for breakfast and lunch. Last but not least, super jeebus, for staying back with the final few and helping pack up. All greatly appreciated.

Thanks to you ALL, with your help it was a great day that went very smoothly. Definately a strong rebound from the disasters of last LAN.

I'm looking forward to the next one.
