Last Sunday, on the same long-weekend Sunday that the Bulldogs downed the Roosters in the NRL Grand Final, we held our most recent TeamDamage LAN.
Attendance was down on our usual sized crowd due to a combination of things, but still a healthy 51 players came down to enjoy what was a solid day of LAN action.
Doom3 was given a test with the All-In-Brawl deathmatch and after 2 fiercely contested heats, TastyWheat and newcomer Possessed matched up in a final duel, with Possessed coming out on top in a very strong performance. Watch out for this guy in future as he was strong in a number of games over the day.
The Unreal Tournament Onslaught match was widely recieved with Hef and Cannon Fodder taking on the captains roles. In a fairly lopsided affair, Cannon Fodders lads smashed the opposition on Torlan and proceeded with the beatings well into the next map, qualifying them all for the prize draw raffle.
The CounterStrike Marathon got underway before lunch and while there were once again a few hiccups with the stats, the server was consistently busy. At the end of the day it would be Consieve who came out with the most frags. Xylem_7, Sw@t, Stalker and eza also performed strongly.
Four teams entered the Warcraft III 2 vs 2 competition, with Venom and Sw@t overcoming Wombat and Pig in the final to take out more CD packs.
Later in the afternoon, Call of Duty : United Offensive got underway and was also widely recieved. Some good matches were played there, but eventually it was Guamy's Allied team that triumphed over RogueAgents Germans to qualify for the prize draw, while a number of other games featured through the day with newly released Dawn of War and UT2K4 InstaGib being given a good run.
Nevawinta and The-One ended up winning the GigaBit Ethernet Adapters from thier tickets earned in UT2K4 and CoD respectively, while the smiling Xylem_7 walked away with the 80GB Hard Drive from one of his CounterStrike tickets.
Late in the afternoon, the crowd gave way to the impending NRL Grand Final, with most people choosing an early finish and leaving before 7pm, while a dedicated few stayed and kicked back with a few relaxing beverages to enjoy what was a close win by the Bulldogs.
In hindsight it was a pretty good day that had almost no hiccups. While it was dissapponting that many registered players dogged the event, I am glad that I resisted the temptation to cancel the event a week ago when I realised the significance of the NRL date clash.
We should be back to full strength next LAN with Uni exams over and the HSC along with it, so I hope you'll join us again then for what should be a bumper event.
