Our Christmas LAN, the last for the year and my final event as organiser was held last Sunday and I have to say that, for me, it was one of the best of the year.

A total of 56 players took part in the day even though the early heat threatened a few meltdowns. Things cooled off before too long and some stragglers from the computer fair came in a little late.

The new Half Life 2 was given a bash in the deathmatch brawl with good results. Quiet achiever [Dan] came out the winner in what was definately a brawl with everything (including the kitchen sink) being thrown around in chaos.

The Warcraft 3 match ended up a free-for-all with sneaky Shrapnel putting his rivals to the sword. Even the great Dragon and master villian Dr Evil were no match for this cheeky upstart.

After lunch, the CounterStrike Marathon got underway with the usual suspects cOnseiVe and Xylem_7 clearly able to dominate the field over the day. For once the stats ran smoothly on the big screen and everyone was happy.

When it was time for Call of Duty : United Offensive, there was a great call to arms and 20 people crammed into the server for what was one of the most intense arm wrestles of the day.
For what must have been close to 2 hours, Cannon Fodders determined Axis forces defeated first the Russians at Kursk and then with mixed fortunes finally overran the English at Sicily. Definately a highlight of the day, CoD:UO has once again shown it has the support to be a regular feature at local LANs, possibly getting more players than CS.

Next up was Savage and a 5 vs 5 match would see the Mouse's Beasts graft out another gradual but decisive win over the humans. Is there any hope for the human race ? Maybe next time....

Unreal Tournament 2004, Capture the Flag once again had a huge call from the players with about 18 players signing up for some fast paced action. Satans team overcame the luckless Beechas team in what was a frenetic and sometimes chaotic encounter. I cant remember the scores, nor the maps (I was too caught up in the flurry of action to take notice), but I remember Beechas team giving us a scare in the first map and after some dogged defense on the second, Satans team finally broke through for the win.

Lucky winners of the prize draw were Satan and Lothlar, who both took home a brand spanking new 80GB Western Digital Hard Drive. Not bad for a days work eh....?

Possibly the best part of the day though (for me) was the packup. My jaw nearly hit the ground when I saw that most of the tables and chairs had been put away before I'd even been able to pack up my own table. It was a great effort by a lot of people (too many to mention here) who all chipped in to help out at the death. It was awesome. The packup took probably around 20 minutes - which would have to be a record - and we were out of there by 8:30pm.

A super big thanks to all those guys who helped and for all the kind words and well wishes from the LANners both on the day and in the forums. Running TD can be tough at times, but when you realise its all appreciated, it makes things all a little bit more worth while and worth the struggle.

I sincerely hope that TeamDamage will be back again next year with a new crew and fresh ideas. By the comments made by many, there are a lot of people who dont want to see this event die and there seems to be enough people interested in lending a hand that I remain hopefull that things will continue. As I said to many on the day, there'll be an email sent out to all soon to try and call together the next generation of volunteers.

As for me, I'm off riding into the sunset. Thanks everyone for supporting TeamDamage over the years. Over the last year or so we've upgraded our network to GigaBit backbone, raised a couple of thousand dollars for the PCYC charity and had a lot of fun doing so.

Its been a great experience for me with a lot of fond memories.

Farewell for now. I'll see you all in the next incarnation.....
