TeamDamage Helpers, Marshalls and Crew Members
What follows is a draft explanation of how the new TeamDamage LAN is going to function. There will be a number of ‘Tasks’ that are basically breakdowns of all the work that is needed to be done to hold one TeamDamage event. Each Task, or Unit, performed at each LAN will count for one level in the organisational structure. So, for example, someone who performs 3 Tasks at each TeamDamage will be classified ‘Level 3’ as a rank of ‘Marshall’. Each rank will carry with it certain benefits outlined below :-
Level 1 : Helper
* Are allowed to attend the SlumberLAN held the night before TeamDamage
* Can enter the TeamDamage LAN early for preferential seating & setup
Level 3 : Marshall
* Gain complementary entry to the TeamDamage LAN (no charge)
* Gain extra food and drink allocation while not having to line up
Level 5 : Crew Member
* Are involved in limited decision making process for the LAN
* Are entitled to purchase and wear TeamDamage organiser shirt
In addition to the above minor fringe benefits, for every Task performed, the helper gets one ticket in the ‘Helper Prize Draw’ which will be drawn at the end of each TeamDamage packup session and will be a voucher with one of our sponsors to the value of $100.
The task breakdown can be found below. It is worth noting that not all tasks will be available to all helpers as some require skills that not everyone has. Helpers of higher ‘Level’ than others will have priority when selecting tasks and helpers in some cases need to be of a specific level already before they can take on some of the more popular tasks such as News Writer or Competition Organiser.
(For example to be a News Writer you would need to commit to take on 3 other qualifying tasks already)
The level required to perform the task is at the top of each section. Obviously we hope that volunteers will take their allocated jobs seriously, but we realise that we are dependant on getting a lot of help from the community. The idea is to give recognition to those who help out aswell as offering incentives to assist in attracting the help we need to make TeamDamage the best LAN that it can possibly be. We know its not much, but it’s a step in the right direction.
We do need to protect the quality of the LAN too, so we would prefer to see people work their way up the levels over a number of LANs rather than just take on 10 jobs at once and perform poorly. With this in mind we may restrict the tasks that helpers want to take on if we are lucky enough to have a lot of applicants.
