Wondering how many people would be interested in some good old Quake1 CTF or Starcraft at the next TeamDamage. They used to be big and a lot of old timers I used to play with seem to have gone missing over the last year. Maybe we can get a bit of retro going in some organised games.

Anyone interested ?

Well i'd like to play some sc (mind u i'll get owned) but a game or 2 would be cool. If i can get my joystick i wouldnt mind a few flight sims like European air war, Xwing Alliance (or xwing vs tie fighter) but i really wanna play some european air war!!! Also i'd love some Half life death match :D

Mouse

ahh yes good old HL DM :P

i have CS beta 1.0 :P but i cant get it working at the moment...

there is a program called 'retro cs2.5" apparently its like beta 5.x and u can run the latest hl patch with it...so yeah im downloading it now

cpd
20th August 2003, 08:39 AM
Gee, I wonder who suggested that. Cough.

Retro CS is pretty cool. Back to ye olde days with a scope as alt-fire on the colt. Whee!

I'd say Carmageddon, but then we'd have to install IPX. *shudder*

RogueAgent
20th August 2003, 09:55 AM
Actually, I was think more old skool as before CS.
Half Life DM could be a go-er tho Mr A. Havent chucked 30 people in a HL DM server in ages....
Its been so long I cant even remember the name of the map we used to play :/

Lord Shaper

if i never play hl dm again it'll be too soon

RogueAgent
20th August 2003, 08:21 PM
Ah yes, Boot Camp - thanks Alpha.
Fun times. I can see that happenning again soon.....

ROTT was just that....ROT !
Never made an impression in my book.
But theres nothing wrong with IPX games. It all used to be IPX back in the old days, and I understand that IPX is more efficient on a LAN than TCP.....just not as versatile I guess.

Every old skool LANner should have IPX installed. Its just making sure you are all using the same frame type that matters. Ethernet 802.3 is the one to use from memory....?

Hexen the original....now that was a cool deathmatch game :)
/me realises he's in an empty room talking to himself

Lord Shaper
20th August 2003, 08:27 PM
How can you not mention Duke 3d, Shadow Warrior, and redneck rampage then!!!

RogueAgent
20th August 2003, 08:37 PM
Yes....I know.

Duke3D used to be my favourite game. Maybe I overplayed it so much back then I'm not missing it yet ;)
Shadow Warrior, the demo absolutely rocked. Lot of fun times at the old Cyberelectric with that one. We used to play 2 v 2 v 2 v 2 comps
Pity the actual release sucked so bad.
I'd give that another go for the hell of it.
"Lo Wang - love you long time !"

As for RR, never really got into it. Didnt seem like anything particularly new or different at the time.

Yoda
20th August 2003, 08:42 PM
yes 802.3 is the one we always used to use.

I liked Hexen but it never went beyond "something interesting", Duke3d was alot of fun, I feel the same way about shadow warrior, and as for Redneck rampage, meh.

HL map with with Nuke Is called Crossfire I believe..

and yes, lots of fun.. but can be annoying when someone constantly sets off the nuke..
but a great map for defending a prizes position..

Yoda

Hey all you old Skoolers!.
long time, and some of the older guys know me. I havent played anything in ages, but I was thinking to maybe try turn up to a few gaming events, if I can fit in the time....

I doubt I can make the next team damage, but hopefully I can jump online and get some keyboard/mouse skills back and turn up to the following team damage..

I just hope you run some old skool stuff if I do make it cause I cant play anything else, and even then I am gonna have trouble!.

Gutty.

Sorry getting to of my favourites confused.. (its been awhile..)

Not sure about the chopper... and I've never played Rocket Crowbar.. so not sure why u thought I was playing that..

I saw you sign up and wondered when you were gonna post. Good to see you on the forum man and good to hear you're keen to get back involved in some action.
You'll have to get the old Sardo Numski to come along too and we will Quake it up old style ;)

On HL DM, I think Alpha is right. Crossfire I thought was the name of the map with the big nuke-proof bunker ??

Mouse
21st August 2003, 06:56 PM
oh yeah...sorry i thought u were talkin about the mod Rocket crowbar, which has a hand held nuke... (its how i won the WLF comp :P) and this one is in bootcamp

yeah theres an airstrike (or nuke if u will) on crossfire and that big bunker thing :P its awsome when the big siren goes and everyone runs for the bunker...aww yeah

Yoda
21st August 2003, 08:09 PM
As I remember if you span the turrets above the bunker around it made it impossible to go up the ladder. ;)

Get sard to come, as long as he doesn't let any farts fly... jesus they were painful.

RogueAgent
21st August 2003, 11:29 PM
I'm sure we can dig up a PC from somewhere for Sard. Might not be all that crash hot, but it should play Quake ;)
I still have a couple machines from the old shop here that I reckon I could use for the LAN until we sell them.

I'd be worth it just to hear the Coppolla boys do 'shout-fest' one more time :D

Hey Scorp and Yoda
Yeah I am still hitting Gym, usually 3 times a week, but I am trying for 4 days..Lack of time makes it hard, due to work etc....
trying to be a little more serious with taking protein and watching my diet. I am trying to lose bodyfat, but eventually hope to increase size. Damn hard to do without some kind of aid (Steroids!!), or super strict diet!.
Me Sard and Daz train at Gym in Shellharbour now, I think its called fitness something!

As for Sardo's farts.... no chance of him leaving them at home.

It would be good to get the 3 of us turn up to a team damage, although we would be like Newbs!!.. None of us has played anything in quite some time.

I didnt but I will have to get it when it comes out, looks really good. I have been looking around for some good RPG's lately, still playing Neverwinter nights occasionally, bought it yonks ago, but never completed the adventure. Never tried playing it online either.
I have a 1.5Mhz machine with 512MB mem, but its not DDR, and the video card is my old viper 770!!. Hope to upgrade in near future.

We used to play at the old CyberElectric years ago, Night time quake CTF and deathmatch. Those days certainly have a lot of fond memories for me, had some really great times, thanks to Rogue letting us play there.
I still yearn for those days sometimes :>),

oh my god. the thing that struck me striaght away was the incredable speed of Quake 1. There is no game that can match it i could not believe i used to play a game so fast. no wonder i'm shit at the lastest games they are too slow.

Tragically I can go back way beyond all that. yes I can remember the start of it all.

that’s right what is now called pong. a black box with smaller black boxes with what looks like light dimmer knobs on them. it had two amazing game styles. tennis where each person was on the other side of the screen and "squash" where each person was on the same side of the screen and the ball (ie large square pixel) was bounced of the line at the other end of the screen.

space invaders in the shops 20 cents a go.

the first lord British (that eventually became Ulitma) was a vector graphic game on the apple 2e. no point to it just go down into a vector drawn dungeon kill stuff get treasure and complete quests for lord British. like go down and kill a rat the return.

Has anyone else heard of a microbee or a vic20. the microbee had a great vector starwars game. Tie fighter were [-0-] and tie interceptors were <-0-> nice.

Through from the past where some great games that if remade today would absolutely rock.

Mail order monsters – raise money buy monster parts put them together to create a monster get certain “powers attack and defenses” and then battle your mates monster. Com 64

Atari 2600 pele soccer nice

C64 – some space game can’t remember the name you flew around hyperspaced etc shot things that were trying to shot you.

The ancient art of war – barbarians V archers V knight – old XT goodness.

Yodas previously mention defender of the crown though that is a bit more modern.

Escape from colditz and WW2 text adventure on the micro bee. Escape from the nazi’s golditz prison..

Any many many more

We have come a very very very very very long way

Lord Shaper

The sadest computer game that i ever got addicted to was Railway Tycoon... OMG that was such a pointless game now that i think about it. Civilization was such a better stratergy game. Its a pitty to see some old games with there new version to not be as playable as the old ones where. Im not sure what a lot of programmers are doing in the gaming industry. A new version of a game is supposed to imporve.
Ie is faster, has refined graphics (They don't have to be extreme resolution) and is playable over and over again.

What else should a new version of a game have? more boobies?

This arcade game let you fly above a scrolling landscape and deliver the final knockout blow with a bomb down a very narrow (and missable) tube (shades of Star Wars). Good sound effects and good fun. The arrow keys took a thumping on this one.
